Seraphina's Maternal mtDNA

Seraphinas mothers mtDNA.jpeg

Seraphina's maternal mtDNA haplogroup K1a4j1, especially K1a, belongs to Middle Eastern linage.

K Haplogroup

Haplogroup K is found through Europe and contains multiple closely related lineages indicating a recent population expansion. The origin of haplogroup K dates to approximately 16,000 years ago. It has been suggested that individuals with this haplogroup participated in the pre-Neolithic expansion following the Last Glacial Maximum.

K1a

K1a is a widespread haplogroup that traces back to a woman who lived nearly 20,000 years ago, right around the time of the last great peak of the Ice Age. As the Ice Age gradually loosened its grasp on the global climate in the next several millennia, K1a expanded in the Middle East. Women carrying the haplogroup later spread into Europe as well, with early waves of migration that carried farmers and their new agricultural lifestyle to the west during the Neolithic Revolution. Today, members of K1a can be found throughout the Middle East and Europe.

Seraphina's direct maternal line which is defined by mtDNA K1a4j1 goes back to the first known and identified female ancestor who was born in Bursa, Turkey - Sophia Konstantinovna Clavone (1760-1822).

According to the available information, Sophia was of Greek ethnic descent which left its ethnic mark in Seraphina's mother's ethnic composition - Greek Epirus (1,5%) - approximately 5-8 generations back on the direct maternal line.
